NEW: Update from our Chairman

I hope everyone is keeping safe and well during this very difficult and challenging time.

You will know we have had to cancel our May gala which I understand is frustrating for swimmers, but unfortunately we are all in the same boat.  Home galas are a much needed source of income for us but we are exploring other avenues to keep us robust.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all parents for your continued support. As a club we are working hard behind the scenes to ensure your club is in a good position when we are allowed to start training again.

I would also like to say a huge thank you to our coaches, whose continued support and land training advice is very much appreciated.

There are training exercises regularly added to our Performance Page and Swim England has a useful YouTube page which features suggested exercises as well as various helpful presentations including nutritional advice.

If anyone has any questions please get in touch with myself, your squad rep or any other member of our committee

More importantly, stay safe everyone and I look forward to providing an update to say that training is starting again.

Best wishes

Emrys Pritchard

Chairman

NEW: Training suspended as pools close

In line with the latest guidance from Government and Swim England’s consequence advice, training has now been suspended following the closure of Gateshead Council pools.

All parents have been emailed information re GAW monthly fees.  Please can you take the time to read this.  If you have not received an email please get in touch with your squad rep.  The letter can also be found on Club Organiser.

Stay safe all and we look forward to training starting again in the hopefully not to distant future.

UPDATED: Coronavirus Guidance

Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Guidance

Further to the Prime Minister’s briefing this evening and Swim England’s announcement, I understand you will be concerned about the escalating situation with regards to the Covid-19 outbreak.  I would like to reiterate that the health, safety and wellbeing of our athletes and members remains our number one priority.

Details of the Swim England announcement can be found here which outlines a number of changes.  All competitions organised by the national governing body that are scheduled to be held between now and the end of May have been called off.

At present the Government has not closed schools or restricted school activity and therefore we do not see any reason why G&W ASC should not continue with our training programmes in our own environment within the  council guidelines of the facility until such time as either the advice changes or the facilities close.

At the point where training stops, it is the intention of the club to stop fees until training resumes.

We are following both Governmental and  Swim England advice and will keep you updated accordingly.

Emrys Pritchard

Chairman G&W ASC
